Savoy Earns Defensive Player of the Year; Two Others Land on All-CNE Teams

DUDLEY, Mass. (3/3/2025) – The Conference of New England announced on Thursday their All-Conference teams for the 2024-25 Men's Basketball season, with three Bison earning accolades.

Senior forward Ryan Savoy highlighted the group, garnering CNE Defensive Player of the Year laurels, with junior guard Javen Flowers-Smith and sophomore forward Simon Percy earning spots on the All-Conference First and Second Teams, respectively.
All three players are receiving postseason honors for the first time in their collegiate careers from the CNE.

Savoy, a native of Lakewood, New Jersey, was a defensive staple for Nichols this year, leading the conference in both blocks (54) and blocks per game (2.2). On top of his defensive strengths, Savoy was also a frequent contributor on the offensive side of the ball, ranking third on the team in total points (288), points per game (11.5), and rebounding (144). The Bison senior registered double-figure points in 15 total games throughout the season, including a season-high 29 at Endicott College on February 17th, and also put together two double-double performances at Gordon (12/4) and against No. 10 Tufts (12/30). Possibly the biggest highlight of his season came on February 25th, where he scored his 1,000th career point in the CNE First Round against Roger Williams.

Flowers-Smith, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was the team's leading scorer at 20.7 points-per-game, which also ranked fourth among all active CNE players. As a double-figure scorer in all 26 appearances this season, the junior guard dropped a season-high 44 points in a 97-77 home win over Roger Williams University on December 7th, which was the highest single-game scoring performance for the program since February 20th, 1994. Throughout the season, the two-time CNE Player of the Week shot 194-of-450 (43.1%) from the floor, 49-of-147 (33.3%) from the perimeter and 101-of-146 (69.2%) from the foul line, and led the team in both assists (107), and steals (39).

Percy, a sophomore captain from Vernon, Connecticut, was also one of Nichols' top scorers throughout the season, ranking second on the team with 14.8 points per game. His own top performance came back on January 28th in a 94-77 win over Gordon College, where he dropped a career-high 29 points with nine rebounds, and four assists. Percy was also a starter in all 26 contests this season, which included six double-double performances, and a team-leading 158-of-260 (60.8%) shooting from the field. Percy also shot 25-of-57 (43.9%) from three, 45-of-70 (64.3%) from free throws, and led the team in rebounding (171).

In addition to the two All-Conference honorees, senior guard Dominic Mello was named to the CNE Community Service Team for 2024-25.
