WELLESLEY, Mass. (3/26/2025) – The story was a low-scoring pitching battle as the Nichols Softball team hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader against the Wellesley College Blue. The Bison earned a split, taking game one by a score of 2-1, before losing game two 0-2.
With the result, the Bison now sit at 11-3 (0-0 CNE) on the season.
Game 1: Nichols 2, Wellesley 1
The Bison needed extra innings to edge out the Blue in game one. The two teams were scoreless after seven innings of play, thanks to strong pitching and defensive play on both sides.
In the top of the eighth inning, junior
Riley Chartier singled to left field,
allowing right fielder
Mary Jo-Laudati to run home for the Bison's first run of the game. In the bottom of that same inning, Wellesley answered back with a run of their own to force a ninth inning.
In the ninth, it was senior
Erin Gour who hit her team-leading 8th double of the season, pushing junior
Allie Silliman home to score the game-winning run for the Bison.
Senior
Chelsea Indyk was phenomenal once again for the Bison in the circle, allowing just one run (zero earned runs) and striking out eight batters over nine innings to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Game 2: Nichols 0, Wellesley 2
Game two saw much of the same minimal scoring between the two squads, as it wasn't until the fifth inning that the Blue put runs on the board.
That fifth inning held all of the game's scoring, as a single and a sacrifice fly helped the Blue score the game's only two runs. All the Bison hits came from the junior class as
Allie Silliman led the Bison with two, while classmates
Ava Slavinsky and
Riley Chartier recorded one hit a piece.
In the circle, freshman
Molly Medor made her triumphant return, striking out three batters and allowing only two runs on five hits in the contest. Medor moves to 2-2 on the season.
Softball's next task is their 2025 Conference of New England opener against Western New England University on Saturday. The first pitch for that doubleheader is set for 12 PM in Dudley.
