BARTOW, Fla. (3/14/25) – On the final day of action at the 2025 Spring Games, the Nichols College softball team shifted fields to Bartow to face off against Ohio Northern University and Washington College (MD). The Bison swept the two game slate to improve to 8-2 this season.
Game 1: Nichols vs. Ohio Northern
In a game that marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Polar Bears jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead over the Bison in the first inning. The Bison's first run came when
Chloe Steiniger distracted the defense between first and second base, allowing her teammate
Ava Slavinsky to score the opening run. However, the Polar Bears answered back with four runs on two hits in the same inning.
The next burst of Bison offense came in the fifth inning, as they scored six runs on five hits to regain the lead.
Allie Silliman opened with an RBI triple, followed by
Erin Gour, who hit an RBI double to center field.
Alyssa Pericello then recorded the second double of her career, allowing two Bison runners to cross the plate.
The Bison continued their push in the sixth, adding three more runs to jump ahead 10-9. Singles from
Kyla Felicani and
Bailey Littlefield, along with a double from the newest member of the Bison 100-hit club,
Ava Slavinsky, contributed to the runs. Ohio Northern added three runs in the seventh inning but was unable to catch up to the Bison. Nichols won the game by a final score of 10-9.
The Bison's 23 hits rank third all-time for a single game in the program's history.
Nichols used three pitchers during the game, with
Molly Medor earning the start. She was relieved by
Ally McNamee, who pitched just over three innings, and
Chelsea Indyk, who earned the win after striking out three batters in relief.
Game 2: Nichols vs. Washington College (MD)
The Bison's winning streak continued in Game 2, as they extended it to six with a 4-1 victory over Washington College out of Maryland. This was the first meeting between the two programs since 2011.
In the opening inning,
Riley Chartier doubled down the left field line in her first at-bat, bringing
Ava Slavinsky home with an RBI. Washington then scored one run in the second inning before the Bison answered with three unanswered runs to secure the win.
The Bison's additional runs came from
Erin Gour's RBI, Mikayla Fortier's single that allowed
Allie Silliman to score (the first RBI of Fortier's career), and Chartier's second RBI of the game in the sixth inning, which allowed
Bailey Littlefield to score.
Defensively,
Allie Silliman recorded seven putouts at first base with one assist.
Emma West-Testo,
Riley Chartier, and
Kyla Felicani made key flyout catches in the outfield to help secure the win for the Bison.
On the mound,
Chelsea Indyk improved to 5-1 on the season, striking out two batters and allowing only six hits in seven innings pitched.
The Bison will now return home to Massachusetts and open their home schedule with a doubleheader against Mitchell College next Saturday, March 22nd. The first pitch for that doubleheader is set for 12:00 PM.
