Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Stumbles at Salve Regina, 14-4

NEWPORT, R.I. (3/1/2025) -  The Nichols College men's lacrosse team had a bumpy start to its weekend on Saturday afternoon, falling to host Salve Regina University by a score of 14-4 at Gaudet Field.

The Bison are now 0-3 on the season with the loss. Salve Regina improves to 4-1 with the win.

All four Bison goals came from different scorers, including one from Dylan DeRubeis, who added in an assist for two points on the day. John Caserta, CJ Cadigan and Conor Doherty were the other goal scorers for Nichols, while Jackson Hernandez led the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Brady Morgan shouldered the loss in net, making 15 saves through 58:40 played.

The Seahawks took off for six unanswered goals to open the game, until Caserta got Nichols on the board with a quick release following his own ground ball, making it 6-1 with 6:55 left. That would be it for scoring in the first quarter, with Salve Regina adding four more strikes in the second quarter to claim a lopsided 10-1 advantage by halftime.

The Salve scoring slowed down in the second half, with the Seahawks adding just two goals in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 12-1. Nichols officially ended their scoreless drought at 00:39 of the period, as Cadigan cashed in off a pass from DeRubeis, directly following a save from Morgan at the other end.

The Seahawks went on to net another pair of goals to open the fourth, putting the game out of reach at 14-2. However, Nichols ended the contest on a higher note, with DeRubeis and Doherty scoring less than a minute apart to round out the 14-4 final score, with Doherty's goal coming a man-up from Kane Williams.

The Bison will next head to Babson College on Tuesday, March 4th for a 5:00 faceoff at MacDowell Field.
