BOSTON, Mass. (2/26/2025) – The Nichols College men's hockey team threw 46 shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net as the Suffolk University Rams topped them 4-0 on Wednesday night from Porazzo Rink in the Conference of New England (CNE) Quarterfinals.
Freshman
Liam Choquette stopped 25 shots in the effort while shouldering the loss for the Bison. Freshman teammates
Ryan Austin and
Dimitri Voyatzis each registered six shots on goal in the game.
After each team traded chances in the opening 10 minutes, junior
Aaron Hamel found himself with an early opportunity one-on-one with the Rams' net-minder. Hamel was robbed on the doorstep, keeping the game 0-0.
Suffolk answered Hamel's chance, with one of their own, this time potting the saucer pass, behind Choquette for a 1-0 lead. Nichols out shot the Rams 14-10 in the opening period.
In the second period, Suffolk applied pressure and scored another goal in the second for a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.
Suffolk scored their third goal of the game before Nichols saw their best chance with a third-period power-play in which they pulled the goal. The Bison threw everything at the net, but could not find the back of the net, and then a late Rams' goal was the final one needed in a 4-0 win over Nichols in the Quarterfinals.
The Bison power-play was 0-3 but a perfect 3-3 on the penalty-kill. Senior
Nathan Carl was 15-30 on the draw to lead the Bison.
With the loss, the Nichols College 2024-25 season ends.
