NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (2/12/2025) – The Nichols College women's tennis team continued its 2025 spring campaign with a 6-1 loss at regional opponent Smith College on Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Indoor Track & Tennis Facility.
The Bison move to 11-5 (6-0 CNE) with the loss, while the Pioneers secure their first victory of the season, improving to 1-1 overall.
The match began with doubles play, as the Bison dropped all three decisions to the Pioneers. However, the top freshman pairing of
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi battled hard for the Bison on court one, narrowly falling by a score of 7-6.
In singles action, Smith extended its match lead to 4-0 with wins at the top three positions, but not without a fight on court No. 3 as senior
Johanna Schroeder battled it out through three sets. The Bison then earned their lone point of the afternoon, when junior
Charis Vogler defeated her opponent 7-6, 6-0 at the No. 4 position, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of the hosts. Smith followed with wins at courts five (6-1, 6-0) and six (6-0, 6-2), finalizing the 6-1 win.
