DUDLEY, Mass. (12/10/2025) - The Nichols College women's basketball moved back into the win column on Wednesday night with a 63-53 non-conference victory over Norwich University inside the Nichols Athletic Center.
Nichols improves with the win, with their overall record jumping to 6-4 (1-2 CNE). The Cadets find themselves below .500, with their record now sitting at 4-5 on the season.
The Bison saw two leading scorers sharing the title in the points column, with
Alyvia Smith and
Summer Klein both posting 16 points,
Rylee Barrieault closely following with 15. Klein also led in rebounds with 10, the combined effort for scoring and boards produced her first double-double of the season.
Adriana Romano and Klein helped set up scoring opportunities with their team best four assists a piece, seeing Klein as the steal leader as well with four.
Angie Coletti defended the rim with her leading two blocks on the night.
The first quarter saw an evenly matched competition. The Bison were able to capitalize on their transition offense to create open looks past the 3-point line, having Barrieault drain several before the quarter ended. Barrieault sunk a 3-point shot with under a minute left remaining to equalize the game at 12-12, then went on to score a lead-taking buzzer beater off of a steal from Coletti prior, Bison up 15-12. The Bison the same hustle and scoring effort in the 2nd, not giving the Cadets any room to close the lead until the end of the quarter, with Norwich tying the game up for the half, 26-26. The Bison also ended the half only allowing one lead for Norwich at 1:57 in the 1st, a lead the Cadets wouldn't achieve again.
In the second half the Bison helped cushion their forming lead with a great defensive presence, posting nine steals in the 3rd quarter alone. Nichols finished the 3rd with their largest end of quarter lead in the game up seven points, 46-39. The 4th was the best for the team, maintaining several double digit leads and getting the Cadets into foul trouble early. With more than half of the fourth quarter left the Bison were fouled into the bonus, producing five points at the charity stripe to help the Bison to cushion their lead. The buzzer sounded with the Bison as the winners, 63, 53.
Women's basketball will play one more game before heading into the break, seeing action at home against Westfield State University at the Nichols Athletic Center. Tip off is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 13th.
