BOSTON, MASS. – The Nichols College women's volleyball team closed out its 2025 campaign on Saturday morning, falling to Wentworth Institute of Technology (13-25, 15-25, 6-25) at Tansey Gymnasium.
The Bison finish the season with an overall record of 8-19 and a 2-8 CNE.
In the season finale, senior
Melina Bezati paced the Bison offense with nine kills, while senior
Kya Burdier and first-year
Alyssa Morse each added four. Graduate student
Ruby St. Onge led the team with 15 assists and a pair of aces, and Morse anchored the defense with 13 digs. At the net, Burdier and senior
Maille Ianniruberto each contributed one block.
The first set saw the Leopards catch fire early, jumping out to a commanding 15-3 run that pressured the Bison defense. Nichols responded with a five-point surge, fueled by two kills from
Melina Bezati, two from
Alyssa Morse, and an ace from junior
Elizabeth Mullen. Despite trading points down the stretch, the early deficit proved too much to overcome, as Wentworth claimed the opening set, 25-13.
The Bison came out more aggressive in the second set, with both teams trading early blows and neither able to gain a firm advantage. Multiple kills from
Melina Bezati and
Alyssa Morse helped pace the Nichols offense and keep the set close. Late in the frame, the Bison captured their first lead of the match at 14-13 after winning a long rally and capitalizing on two Leopard errors. However, Wentworth quickly regained control, closing the set on a dominant 12-1 run to take it, 25-15.
Despite being on the back foot, the Bison continued to compete with grit and energy in the final set. Wentworth, however, found its rhythm early and carried the momentum through to take the set, 25-6, and the match, 3-0.
The result brings the 2025 Nichols College women's volleyball season to a close, capping off a year of growth, effort, and resilience for the Bison.
