BEVERLY, Mass. (11/7/2025) - The Nichols College field hockey program had a pair of student-athletes collect 2025 CNE All-Conference accolades, as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.
Graduate student defender
Merle Steinau was a Second Team selection for her position, while senior midfielder
Taylor Breen earned Third Team recognition. Both players, who were each team captains this past season, are now two-time recipients of All-Conference honors.
Steinau, a native of Essen, Germany, was one of the CNE's top defensive players this season, logging a conference-leading nine defensive saves on the campaign. However, she was also no stranger to contributing on the offensive side of the field, ranking third on the team with 11 total points, scoring three goals and five assists with 16 shots on goal. Steinau also started in each of her 19 appearances this fall.
Breen, a dual-sport athlete from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was another frequent contributor to the Bison attack this season, scoring 10 points with three goals and four assists, including a game-winning goal in Nichols' playoff clinching win over Gordon on October 25
th. As a starter in all of her 18 appearances this season, she also fired off 15 shots on goal throughout the fall.
Additionally, as part of the All-Conference celebration, sophomore defender
Brooke Morin was named to the CNE Community Service Team.
