DUDLEY, Mass. (11/2/2025) - The Nichols College women's tennis team hosted No. 5 Endicott College for the 2025 Conference of New England Championship match early on Sunday at the Robinson Tennis Courts. Nichols College were the victors in the competition, posting a final match score of 4-1 over the Gulls to earn their title as the conference champions.
The win wraps up the season and postseason play for the Conference of New England, having women's tennis see action next in the Spring.
The Bison started off shaky in doubles play, having court No. 3 fall first 0-6, giving the Gulls an edge in doubles. A loss from either courts would give the doubles point to Endicott, a key component of their wins leading up to the CNE Final. On court No. 1, the pairing of
Kamora Helton and
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi went down as far as 2-4 and
Charis Vogler and
Cora Brosch on No. 2 were tied at 2-2. In one of the biggest comebacks of the year on court No. 1, Helton and Gonzalez rallied to bring the core back in favor of the Bison, 6-4. On the court adjacent, Charis and Vogler posted four games unanswered to award the Bison a crucial doubles point going into singles play.
In the period between doubles and singles, several Bison were named and honored for conference awards of which will be announced on Tuesday.
Moving into singles action, the Bison started off hot, winning a set on four separate courts. Vogler was the first to finish on court No. 2 with a scores of 6-3, 6-1, followed shortly by Helton's win on court No. 1, 6-0, 6-2. With the score 3-0 and Nichols a point away from victory, the team yet again had their attention toward Gonzalez Vallardi, who was 5-2 and a game away from a conference championship.
Cassie Rice on court No. 6 lost 6-1, 6-4, making the score 3-1 with Nichols still up.
Erin Helly was up on her court as well, winning her first set and well into her second.Â
In almost a mirrored outcome to the previous Semifinal match, Gonzalez Vallardi clinched the game for the Bison, 6-2, 6-2, leaving Brosch and Helly's matches marked unfinished and another conference championship for the Nichols College women's tennis program.
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi was honored after the match as the 2025 CNE Tournament Most Outstanding Player for her efforts, joined by
Kamora Helton,
Catherine Pollock,
Cora Brosch,
Charis Vogler,
Erin Helly, and
Cassie Rice to be recognized as the 2025 CNE women's tennis champions, the 7th in the books for the program.
Following a fantastic year of coaching and dedication to the winning culture at Nichols, head coach Javier Godoy Gomis and coach Jose Nunez get their first championship in their coaching career. Godoy Gomis joins a select group of coaches at Nichols to win a championship during their first year of coaching.
