Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Ice Hockey Fall in OT to Assumption, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/2/2025) - The Nichols College Bison men's ice hockey team returns to the Worcester Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon for the consolation game of the WooCup against the Assumption University Greyhounds. 60 minutes of play were not enough to separate the two sides, and after 1:55 in OT, Assumption scored the game-winning goal on a 2-on-1 break. The Bison fell 2-1 to the Greyhounds in OT.

After the first weekend of games, Nichols' record is 0-2-0 (0-0-0 CNE), while Assumption University is now at 1-1-0.

The first period saw both teams match up evenly, with nothing being able to separate the two. The Greyhounds barely outshot the Bison 11-12, while the Bison won faceoffs 12-11. Nick Brennan and Jacob Ammar led the Bison in shots on goal with two each. The teams headed into the intermission tied at 0-0.

The Bison came out strong in the second period, putting pressure on the Greyhounds. Nichols found the breakthrough midway through the second period when freshman forward Wyatt Teubert (1) tallied his first goal of his collegiate career on the power play at 14:34, finishing a setup from Herman Åsberg and Dylan Ray. Teubert's goal gave Nichols a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.

Assumption evened the game early in the third period when Ryan Decker (1) converted off a feed from Brett Cunningham and Andrew Toomey at 2:59. Despite multiple scoring chances and a shots-on-goal advantage, the Bison could not find the go-ahead goal, sending the game to overtime.

In OT, the Greyhounds secured the win when Jake DiNapoli (1) found the back of the net at 1:55 off assists from Shane McElhaney and Jonathan Surrette. Assumption found themselves a 2-on-1 break, which after Jonathan Surrette's shot went wide, McElhaney picked up the rebound and found DiNapoli, who put it in the back of the net to end the game.

The Bison went 1-for-6 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, while winning faceoffs 47-31 on the night. The Bison outshot the Greyhounds 41 to 38.

Sophomore goaltender Liam Choquette stood tall in net, stopping 34 of 36 shots for a .944 save percentage.

Nichols men's ice hockey is back next weekend when they host their first home game on Friday, November 7th at 6:40 PM against Rivier University.
