BIDDEFORD, Maine (11/1/2025) – The No. 6 seeded Nichols College field hockey team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, following a 6-0 loss to No. 3 host University of New England in the Conference of New England Tournament First Round at Blue Bolt Field.
Nichols finishes the season with a 6-14 (2-5 CNE) overall record, while the Nor'easters advance to the tournament semifinal with a 12-8 (5-2 CNE) mark.
The Nor'easters grabbed control of the game early on with a three-goal opening quarter, beginning with their first just 3:04 in. Additional strikes in the 12
th and 14
th minutes, both off of penalty corners, furthered their lead to 3-0, with the hosts also outshooting the Bison by a 5-0 margin throughout the frame. Then, on their third trip to the corner in the second period, UNE would cash in again to stretch their lead to 4-0 in 19
th minute, putting Nichols in a 4-0 bind at halftime.
After the break, UNE continued on with their final two goals of the game in the third quarter, which came just 2:08 apart to finish the job at 6-0. Nichols would manage a solid scoring chance in the fourth quarter, courtesy of Sophia Calabro, but the UNE goalkeeper stood tall to make the save, preserving the shutout.
On the other end of the field, freshman goalkeeper
Jessa Altemose (5-10) shouldered the loss for the Bison, making one save.
