BEVERLY , MASS. – The Nichols College women's volleyball team came up short against Endicott College, falling 3-0 (13-25, 11-25, 11-25) in a Conference Of New England matchup Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Bison drop to 6-12 (1-3 CNE), while the Gulls improve to 9-8 (3-1 CNE).
Nichols found offensive success through senior Mairead Frost, who totaled five kills. Maille Ianniruberto and sophomore Gabrielle McKayle each added three kills apiece. Senior Kya Burdier and graduate student Ruby St. Onge shared the setting duties, dishing out six assists each. Defensively, Burdier tallied two blocks, while St. Onge collected five digs. Alyssa Morse and Elizabeth Mullen anchored the back line with seven and six digs, respectively.
Endicott opened the first set with their foot on the gas, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The Bison tried to respond with kills from St. Onge and McKayle, but the Gulls continued to build momentum. After Frost recorded the final Bison point of the set, Endicott closed it out 25-13.
The Gulls carried that momentum into the second set, starting with an early eight-point run that led to a commanding 12-1 advantage. Nichols tried to slow the surge with a kill from Ianniruberto assisted by St. Onge and a strong block by Burdier and McKayle, but the Gulls maintained control. Despite a late push that included kills from McKayle and Morse, Endicott took the set 25-11.
Down 2-0, the Bison looked to rally in the third set, but Endicott continued to dictate the pace. Nichols generated some offensive rhythm, but the Gulls stayed in control to finish the set 25-11 and complete the sweep, 3-0.
The Bison return home for their next conference matchup against Roger Williams University (8-8, 4-0 CNE) on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the Nichols Athletic Center.
