BEVERLY, Mass. (10/6/2025) – Derek Axon returned to the weekly honors stage, earning CNE Defensive Player of the Week honors for October 6th. This is Axon's second time, and the team's fourth time, receiving weekly honors this season.
Goalkeeper
Derek Axon started and played all 90 minutes in both games this past week. In Wednesday's match against Fitchburg State University, Axon made five saves on the six shots on goal faced to earn a 3-1 win for the Bison. In Saturday's CNE match against Curry College, Axon earned a conference clean sheet, making four saves and coming out to claim any dangerous crosses to preserve a crucial 1-0 win to earn Nichols College their first conference win of the season.
Axon earned two wins in his two games played, recording a 2-0 record on the week.
This is Axon's third time winning CNE Defensive Player of the Week honors, with his previous awards coming on September 22
nd, 2025, and September 18th, 2023. With this week's recognition, Axon now ties
William Pugliese-Savage for the most weekly conference honors among active players, with three each.
Axon and the men's soccer team return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Wenham, Massachusetts, for a Conference of New England match against Gordon College. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
