BOSTON, Mass. (10/11/2025) – The Nichols College men's soccer team came up just short on Saturday, dropping a 1-0 decision to Wentworth Institute of Technology at Sweeney Field.
Nichols falls to 3-7-3 (1-4-1 CNE) with the result, while Wentworth moves to 3-7-4 (2-3 CNE).
It was a slow start to the game for both teams, as both struggled to break down the other team's defense. In the first 30 minutes of the game, only one shot on goal was recorded by each team. For Nichols, it was
Braydon Richardson with the shot that forced Wentworth's keeper Adrian Sanchez to make a great save.
Late drama struck when the Leopards found a goal with nine seconds left in the half, thanks to a header by Zachary Redondo. The assist came from a long throw-in by Brady Erickson.
The Leopards started the second half strong, forcing two saves from Nichols senior keeper
Derek Axon in the first five minutes of the half.
Nichols fought hard in the second half to find an equalizer, but was unable to break through. Nichols' best chance of the second half was a header from
Braydon Richardson, but it was saved by Erickson to preserve his clean sheet. The match ended in a 1-0 loss for the Bison.
Axon made nine saves on the ten shots faced for the Bison. This was Axon's 8th start in the net this season.
Nichols returns home on Saturday, October 18th, against Endicott College, where they will look to rebound and build on the fight shown today. The kickoff time is set for noon.
