Football Dropped By Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (9/7/2024) – The Nichols College Football team opened the 2024 season on the road at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon from Cressy Field. The Corsairs topped the Bison 64-24.

Senior Dante Barboza and freshman Bryadon Aylward led all Bison defenders with four solo tackles. While sophomore Bryce Prince finished with six total tackles.

Offensively, senior Stone Compton rushed for 103 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown. Sophomore John Gianibas rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for the Bison. Junior Ian Snow threw for 120 yards and a tocuhdown.

In the first games for both programs. Similar to last year it went in favor of the Corsairs. They went right down the field to open the scoring 7-0. A bad snap led to a great field position for the home team, and they capitalized for a 14-0 lead just three minutes into the game.

The Bison got on the board in the second quarter off an 18-yard field goal from freshman Nick Foynes. Nichols trailed 54-3 at the half to UMass Dartmouth. Just four minutes into the third quarter Gianibas scored his first touchdown of the season, as Snow hit with a 12-yard touchdown. Compton scored with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter, with a two-yard rush.

In the fourth quarter, Gianibas found the end-zone for the second time, this time with a one-yard rush. Nichols fell 64-24 at the hand of the Corsairs.

The Bison (0-1) will return home for their homeopener on Saturday, September 14th. Kickoff against Maine maritime is set for 12:00 p.m. as the Bison will celebrate the Football Championship teams of the 70's.
