Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Upended by Fisher, 3-1

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/25/24) – In their second match in as many nights, the Nichols College women's volleyball team fell to the Fisher College Falcons, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 20-25, 20-25) on Wednesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The loss is the first at home for the Bison this season, who fall to 2-6 overall. Fisher improves to 9-5 with the road win.

Graduate outside hitter Haylee Granato led the Nichols attack with eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Junior Kya Burdier produced a double-double on the night, dishing out 17 assists along with 11 digs, while senior Luna Colozzo led the Bison defensive effort with 19 digs.

The Bison stood tall in the first set, taking home the 25-20 victory to open the night. With Fisher in front 12-9 at the midway point, the Bison returned fire with a 12-1 run to claim a 21-13 lead, with nine of the points resulting from Falcon errors and two from Granato kills. The Falcons then went on a quick 6-0 run to reduce Nichols' lead to two points at 21-19, before surrendering four of the final five points in the set to give the Bison the win.

However, in sets two and three, the Bison would have to battle from behind early in each to try and gain the upper hand in the match. On the opposite side of the court, the Falcons managed to find their offensive spark late in each set, which included scoring each of the final four points in set two, en route to 25-22 and 25-20 victories.

In what would be the final frame, the Bison took control early in the form of a 9-6 lead. However, Fisher would strike six times on the next 10 rallies to trail the Bison by just one point, before pulling away on a 5-0 run to take a 17-13 lead late in the action. As a result, the Bison would come up short in their comeback bid, falling 25-20 in set four.

The Bison hit the road for their first CNE matchup of 2024 as they head to face Gordon College (4-6, 0-0 CNE) on Saturday, September 28th. The first serve is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the Bennett Center.
