PORTLAND, Maine (9/22/24) – In their first tournament appearance of the fall, the Nichols College men's golf team finished runner-up at the University of Maine Husky Classic, held at the par-72 Riverside Golf Course.
The Bison combined to finish 20-over par through the single round event, which placed them ahead of third place Husson by seven strokes (+27). Southern Maine won the event at 14-over par.
Leading the way was graduate
Luke Sargent, who tied for second individually with an even-par 72 on the afternoon. For Sargent, his even-par performance was a career low and featured one birdie out of the turn.
Nichols also saw two other players crack the top-10 individually, who were sophomores
Tyler Pearson and
Brady Salah. Both were included in a seven-way tie for ninth place after equally scoring 78 (+6) on the day, with Salah making his collegiate debut. Fellow sophomore
Cameron Desante placed tied for 17
th with 80 (+8), while senior
Drew Stanton turned in a 84 (+12) card to finish tied for 27
th.
Men's Golf will turn back around for a second trip to Maine on September 28-29 for the Bowdoin College Invitational, which will be held at the Brunswick Golf Club.
