Women's Tennis Hosts Four-Team Bison Invitational Tournament

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/14/24) – It was a busy afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts on Saturday, as the Nichols College women's tennis program hosted its first ever Bison Invitational Tournament.

Joining Nichols on the day were opponents Springfield College, Connecticut College and Bryant University. The tournament was divided into multiple round robin brackets for singles competition, while doubles featured eight head-to-head matchups. The first two sets of each singles matchup were played to four points, while deciding third sets were played to seven.

"Today was a great day for us to showcase our facilities", said Bison head coach Ron Gendron. "All four teams had the opportunity to compete in multiple events, with a combined mix of wins, losses and sportsmanship everywhere. I'd like to congratulate the coaches from each of the opposing teams for a wonderful and successful event."

The Bison were well represented on the afternoon, beginning with pod victories from senior Antonia Carrero and freshman Kamora Helton in singles. Carrero, after defeating her opening round opponent by scores of 4-0 and 4-2, went on to win the second bracket by way of a third-set tiebreak (3-4, 4-3, 7-5). Helton, who played in bracket No. 1, matched her set scores in each of her matchups en route to securing her own victory.

Junior Charis Vogler also took home the victory in bracket No. 5, soundly beating her opponent in two sets (4-0, 4-1) before winning the final matchup by matching 4-1 scores.

In doubles competition, Vogler alongside partner Cora Brosch were the only Bison tandem to claim a win on the afternoon, which came by way of a 6-3 score at the No. 3 position.

Women's Tennis will make their first conference appearance of 2024 with a road matchup at Roger Williams University this Tuesday, September 17th. Opening serve is set for a 4:00 PM start time at the Roger Williams Tennis Courts.
