SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (4/9/2024) – The Nichols College baseball team lost their third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match up on Tuesday afternoon, when they faced off against Western New England University from Trelease Park. Nichols lost 6-1 to the Golden Bears.
Seniors
Ben Jerome and
Andrew Croteau paced the Bison offensively. Jerome went 3-4 and scored the lone RBI for the Bison, while Croteau went 3-3 on the afternoon for Nichols.
Western New England opened the scoring in the first inning, after a dropped pop fly, resulted in the opening run coming around to score, Nichols trailed 1-0 after one inning to play. Nichols pulled even in the top of the third inning, thanks to a single from senior
Johnny Knox and then Jerome knocking in Knox with a single of his own.
The Golden Bears quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the third frame, to lead 2-1. WNE plated three more runs in the seventh inning, before putting the game out of reach in the eighth inning, with their sixth run of the game.
Junior
John Steed (2-1) was tabbed with the loss for the Bison, tossing 6.0 innings, while allowing three runs (two earned) and only giving up five hits. He also fanned four WNE batters. Sophomore
Aidan Whitten threw 0.1 inning and allowed two runs on two hits for the Bison. Junior
Sean Ryan, wrapped up the game for the Bison, throwing 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Nichols (14-8, 2-5 CCC) will look to right the ship on Wednesday, April 10, afternoon as they welcome the University of Saint Joseph (CT) to the Nichols College Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
