DUDLEY, Mass. (4/6/24) – It was smooth sailing for the Bison as the Nichols College Men's Lacrosse Team stormed past visiting CCC-foe University of New England, 11-4, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup (CCC), on Vendetti Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bison improved to 7-5 (2-1 CCC) on the year, and the Nor'easters dropped to 3-10 (0-4 CCC) on the season. The win marks the sixth straight win against the Nor'easters for the Bison dating back to the 2018 season.
The Bison opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest when attacker Ryan Warner slotted his 9th goal of the season. Two minutes later the freshman Evan Anderson scored his first collegiate goal to bring the Bison lead to 2-0 with 11:11 to play in the quarter. Back-to-back goals from Dylan DeRubeis and Joey Lachance increased the lead to 4-0 before the Nor'easters grabbed a goal of their own to shorten the Bison lead to 4-1. Conor Doherty was the next Bison to find the back of the net, scoring his 15th goal of the season to move the Bison lead to 5-1. Nearly 40 seconds later, the Nor'easters would grab another goal to bring the score at the end of the frame to 5-2. The Nor'easters outscored the Bison, 2-1, in the second quarter to shrink the Bison lead to 6-4 at the break.
The Bison would not be deterred and went on a 5-0 run in the second half using goals from five different Bison. Colby Gillis started the Bison scoring run by slipping through the defense and firing shot into the back of the net to bring the score to 7-4. Nichols then used goals from Jack Ellis and Cooper Melvin to close the third quarter with the Bison on top 9-4. Warner and Doherty finished the scoring with two goals in two minutes to finish the game with a commanding 11-4 victory.
The Bison outshot the Nor'Easters, 44-22, while forcing 25 Nor'easter turnovers. Brady Morgan finished the game with 8 saves and improved his record on the season to 7-5. Billy Heller relieved Morgan late in the fourth and recorded one save in the contest.
Next up, The Bison play host to CCC opponent Curry College (3-9, 1-2 CCC) on Wednesday, April 10th. The opening draw is slated for 7:00 PM at Vendetti Field.
