Women's Lacrosse Handed First Loss At Endicott, 21-2

BEVERLY, Mass. (3/30/24) – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Endicott College, 21-2 at Hempstead Stadium.

The Bison fall to 10-1 (1-1 CCC) overall, while Endicott improves to 5-5 (2-0 CCC).

Junior midfielder Hadley Houghton and sophomore attacker Caitlin Welch were the two goal scorers for the Bison. Houghton, who ranks second in all of NCAA Division III in goals, also scooped up two ground balls with two draw controls, while junior McKenzie Muir tied with sophomore Veronica Hill for the team lead in ground balls (3).

After being outscored 9-0, Houghton put the Bison on the board with her 67th goal of the season to make it 9-1 early in the second quarter. However, the Gulls wrapped up the half on a 5-0 run, resulting in a 14-1 difference at halftime.

Endicott went up 15-1 with a goal at 6:23 of the third, but Nichols also found the back of the net on Welch's 19th goal of the season at 3:31, which came both unassisted and a man-up, to make it a 15-2 game. However, Endicott would go on to score the remaining six goals, claiming the eventual 21-2 win.

In goal, sophomore starter Briar Slattery (9-1) made five saves through 52:01 of playing time.

Women's lacrosse will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 3rd at the University of Hartford (3-5), with coverage starting at 6:30 PM from Alumni Stadium.
