BEVERLY, Mass. (3/30/2204) – The Nichols Men's Lacrosse Team fell behind early in a loss to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent, #18/20 Endicott College, on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium in Beverly. They dropped the contest by a score of 19-6. Nichols now sits at 6-4 (1-1 CCC) while the Gulls jumped to 8-1 (2-0 CCC).
After falling behind 5-0, sophomore midfielder Conor Doherty took advantage of an open-lane opportunity and slotted his 14th goal of the season into the back of the net to put the Bison on the board with just over a minute to play in the first quarter to bring the score to 5-1.
Endicott struck first in the second quarter, but senior attacker Colby Gillis responded with a quick goal of his own to shorten the lead to 6-2. However, the Gulls finished the half on a 4-0 run that included 2 man-up efforts to see their lead increase to 10-2.
Coming out of the break, the Gulls would score another tally to bring the scoring run to 5-0. Junior attacker CJ Cadigan was able to give the visitors some momentum by netting his 14th goal of the season. Shortly after, senior defender Kyle Ettenhofer signed his name into the scorebook with a slicing shot, but the Bison would still find themselves down 15-4 heading into the fourth quarter. Nichols was outscored 4-2 in the final quarter with both goals being scored by first-year midfielder Shea Ullo to finish the game 19-6.
Both Gillis (1-1-2) and Ullo (2-0-2) led the offensive push with two points apiece. Junior goalkeeper Brady Morgan made 7 saves as the starter and was later relieved by sophomore Carter Renaud who recorded 4 saves. Morgan started his tenth game of the season and now sits at 6-4.
Next up, the Bison will travel to newly minted CCC member The University of Hartford (2-4) in a Wednesday afternoon showdown on April 3rd with the Hawks at Al-Marzook Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
