DUDLEY, Mass. (2/28/23) – It was all Bison in a rainy non-conference matchup with Mount Holyoke College on Vendetti Field Wednesday evening. The Bison took the game 13-4 to improve their record to 2-0 on the season.
Nichols opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the game, with sophomore
Emma Patton scoring an unassisted tally to open the game. That goal was just the start as Nichols went on to scored six more before the end of the first quarter. The Bison had a 7-0 lead after the first 15. Those goals came from Patton (2),
Hadley Houghton (2),
Caitlin Welch,
Kristen Ruby notching her first career goal as a Bison, and
Paige Alexander.
After the dominate first, it was the visiting Lyons that struck first in the second frame, with Emi Bisson putting the visitors on the board almost 3 minutes in. But that swing wouldn't last long as more Bison found their way onto the scoresheet. Junior
McKenzie Muir added a goal to the mix before freshman
Gabriella Mandirola score her first colligate goal on a woman-up play. Patton, Houghton, and Muir would each go on to add another tally after that, as the home side got the 10 goal lead to keep the clock running just before halftime.
The third and fourth quarters would be quieter on the scoring front as the teams exchanged goals at the midway point of the third before the Lyons would add two goals in the fourth.
Hadley Houghton finished with a team high 4 goals, followed closely by
Emma Patton with 3. Nichols held the Lyons to just 10 shots (9 SOG), while recording 32 shots (22 SOG). The Bison were also very successful on their clears going 12-14.
Defensively,
McKenzie Muir led the way for the Bison with 4 ground balls, and
Hadley Houghton recorded 3 caused turnovers. Goaltenders
Briar Slattery and
Keri Tremblay split time in goal recording 2 and 3 saves respectively.
The Bison return to action this Saturday as they take on Salem State University at home on Vendetti Field. Game time is set for 12 PM.
