HARRISVILLE, R.I. (11/26/2024) – Thanks to four different goal scorers and 13 different point scorers found the stat sheet as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team earned a 5-2 win over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday afternoon from Levy Rink.
Sophomore
Ema Jaskova scored twice, including the game winning goal, while classmate
Anneliese Klein, and freshman
Kerstin Ambruso and
Sophie Costello-Krakowski eached added a goal. Ambruso added an assist along with graduate student

Melissa Montesi, juniors

Avery Moriarty, sophomore

Alexis Pacheco,
Angalisa Caceda, and
Kasey Litwin.
The Trailblazers grabbed the opening goal on their first shot of the game after a pass was knocked down and then the loose puck was fired home for a 1-0 MCLA lead at the 2:07 mark of the first period. Nichols 10 minutes later Nichols earned a back-to-back power-plays for a 5-on-3. Nichols won the draw and Ambruso lifted a pass to the point, Reeves walked in and passed off to Klein who one timed a shot past the netminder from the top of the circle. This was Klein's second goal of the season.
In the second period, the Bison grabbed the lead at the 3:46 of the second with Jaskova potting her second goal of the season. Bullens centered a pass and after a shot from Caceda, Jaskova buried the loose puck and fired it home.
Jaskova netted her second goal of the period, after a Montesi had her shot blocked, Jaskova picked up the loose puck at the top of the circle and walked in and ripped the top left corner to make it 3-1 Bison after 40 minutes.
MCLA did not go away and found themselves with a partial breakaway. The Trailblazers puled within one goa, 3-2, after they picked the far corner 34 seconds into the third period. Nichols added their fourth goal of the game, when Pacheco lifted a pass up ahead to Melanson who jumped into a 2-on-1 with Ambruso. Melanson's saucer pass found the tape of Ambruso who rifled a shot off the crossbar and in, for her first collegiate goal.
The Bison added another collegiate first, when Costello-Krakowski buried her first goal of a rebound from the top of the crease. Moriarty fired a shot that was saved and then a Breen shot, was also saved before Costello-Krakowski scored her first collegiate goal.
Senior
Anamary Pulgar stopped eight shots to earn her first win of the season. Nichols was 1-5 on the power-play and 1-1 on the penalty kill as well in the win. Melanson won 19-29 faceoffs to lead all skaters for the Bison.
Nichols (4-4-0, 1-3-0 CNE) will head into the Thanksgiving Break before returning to the ice to face off against Conference of New England (CNE) opponent Jonson & Wales University. Puck drop from Lynch Arena is set for 7:40 p.m.
