DUDLEY, Mass.- Adie Hughes, the graduate assistant coach for Nichols College Women's Soccer team, brings a wealth of experience and a fierce competitive spirit to the field. Having played for the team for three years as a goalkeeper, she already had a lot of Nichols experience prior to taking on a coaching role. Known for her leadership and relentless work ethic, Adie played and led the Bison during her years in the net.
Off the field, Adie continued to succeed. Balancing the demands of being a student-athlete with her academic commitments, she maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her undergraduate years. Her ability to thrive in both athletics and academics made her a role model for her peers. Adie's dedication to her studies earned her the title of "academic weapon".
By the time she reached her senior year, Adie was named captain of the Nichols Women's Soccer team. Her leadership both on and off the field was undeniable, and she played a pivotal role in fostering team cohesion and motivation. As captain, she helped guide her teammates, not just through matches, but in their personal growth and development as student-athletes.
One of the most important lessons Adie learned during her time as a collegiate athlete was the value of savoring each moment. "Enjoy every moment because it goes by quick," she reflected. She tries to instill this motivation in the athletes that she coaches as well.
In addition to her roles as a student and player, Adie has made her mark as a highly qualified referee. She holds certifications from both the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), officiating games from youth clubs to NCAA Division I matches. Her ability to manage high-pressure situations as a referee speaks to her deep understanding of the game and her commitment to its integrity.
Adie began her refereeing career in 2016, and in just eight years, she has risen through the ranks. Starting with youth club matches, she worked her way up to officiating high level NCAA games, demonstrating the same work ethic that made her successful as a player. Her determination and skill have earned her respect on the field in a different capacity, now as a trusted official.
At just 22 years old, Adie has already experienced a lot of soccer accomplishments. From being a standout collegiate athlete to a certified referee, and now a graduate assistant coach, she continues to excel in all that she pursues. Her versatility and drive make her a true "jack of all trades," always pushing herself to be better in everything she does.
As a Nichols assistant coach now, Adie is excited to help guide the next generation of players. Her experience as a player and referee gives her a unique perspective that allows her to connect with the team on multiple levels. She is determined to pass on the lessons she learned and to instill a winning mentality in the players she now coaches.
