DUDLEY, Mass. (10/8/24) – The Nichols College men's tennis team was able to fend off a late rally from non-conference opponent Clark University on Tuesday evening, earning themselves their first victory of the 2024 fall season by a score of 4-3 at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Bison open the year at 1-0 overall, while Clark drops to 1-3 on their respective campaign.
Nichols claimed what proved to be a key doubles point with wins at two of the three matchups. The first victory came from the No. 2 flight of graduate
Caio Dieckmann and senior
Richard Hartmann Zuzio, who defeated their opponent by a 6-1 score. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Enzo Matos Balleux and junior
Jose Nunez were also victorious as the tandem won by a 6-4 score to clinch the early point.
Freshman
Felipe Gonzalez opened singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 position, which put Nichols ahead 2-0 in the match. Moments after Clark notched their first point of the match, senior
Kerem Subasi restored Nichols' two-point edge with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Clark would again respond with a win to make it 3-2, before senior
Oscar Junyent clinched the match with a three-set triumph on court six, winning by scores of 6-1, 1-6 and 6-3.
Nichols men's tennis will play host to both Amherst College (0-0) and Connecticut College (2-0) this Saturday, October 12
th for a three-team, dual-match style tournament. Coverage of the event is slated for a 9:00 AM start at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
