BOSTON, Mass. (10/16/24) – The Nichols College Women's Volleyball team battled, but came up empty handed in a 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 15-25) conference loss at Suffolk University on Wednesday evening inside Smith Court.
The Bison fall to 4-14 (0-4 CNE), while the Rams improve to 19-4 (2-2 CNE).
Senior
Luna Colozzo hit a team-high .467 on the night, totaling seven kills on 15 attempts with no attacking errors and 11 digs. Graduate
Haylee Granato joined Colozzo with her own seven-kill performance, while senior
Ruby St. Onge accounted for 14 assists. On the defensive side, graduate libero
Liz Diorio added a match-high 14 digs.
The Bison hung around in the opening set before Suffolk won three straight rallies to claim a 19-14 lead. Nichols continued to put up a fight late in the action, pulling to within two points of the Rams at 22-20 thanks to a Granato kill. Suffolk then went on to win those two points back, before connecting for a final kill to win the set 25-21.
In the second set, the Bison ran into some offensive troubles as Suffolk used a 6-0 run to take a 13-9 lead, with each of their points resulting from Bison attack errors. Shortly thereafter, another 5-0 Rams run increased their lead to 18-10, which proved to be enough insurance down the stretch. Suffolk went on to win 25-16 in the second stanza, putting them ahead 2-0 in the match.
The third set was much like the second, with Suffolk firing off a 5-0 run midway through to claim a 13-8 lead. In an attempt to cut the gap, the Bison then went point-for-point with the Rams throughout most of the remaining time, but not before Suffolk won the final four rallies to complete the sweep, 25-15.
The Bison are back in action this weekend for the Emerson College Tri-Match in Boston, Massachusetts. Nichols opens with a 1:00 PM matinee against Coast Guard (13-7, 3-3 NEWMAC), before facing host Emerson (9-10, 2-3 NEWMAC) directly after at 3:00 PM. All three matches will be played inside Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium.
