WENHAM, Mass. (10/12/2024) – Behind four different goal scorers, the Nichols College field hockey team grabbed their first win in Conference of New England play with a 4-1 win over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Sofia Calabro scored and added an assist, classmate
Katherine Hearn scored her first goal of the season. Senior
Callie Worthington and freshman
Asya Osei-Opoku each tallied as well for the Bison. Junior
Merle Steinau added a pair of assists and junior
Kaelyn Casper also chipped in with an assist.
Hearn opened the Bison scoring just over six and a half minutes into the first quarter, with Steinau grabbing an assist on the goal. Calabro doubled up the Bison lead and scored the eventual game winning goal at the 21:02 mark of the game, giving Nichols a 2-0 lead.
Gordon cut into the Nichols lead, before Worthington helped Nichols back to the two-goal lead and with under 90 seconds remaining in the contest, Osei-Opoku added some insurance with her second goal of the season. Nichol won 4-1.
Senior
Sophia Venable made two saves in the win for the Bison.
Nichols will stay on the road as they head to Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, October 15
th for a matchup with the Wolves. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
