BRIGHTON, Mass. (1/7/2024) – The Nichols College men's hockey team fell in the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational Championship game to Tufts University by a final score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon from Warrior Ice Arena. The Bison finished as runner's up in the tournament.

Junior Tyler Bost and senior Mathias Backstrom shared time in net in the game, with Bost making 19 stops on 23 shots. Backstrom stopped 24 shots on 25 shots in relief. The Bison and Jumbos faced off for the first time since 2004 on Sunday.

The Jumbos opened the scoring just 1:06 into the contest and did not look back as they cruised to a 5-0 win over the Bison to capture the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational Crown. The Jumbos added their second goal of the game at the 18:47 mark in the first frame to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

The second period was more of the same for the Jumbos as they added three more goals, including two power-play goals to seal the game and win 5-0.

Nichols went 1-3 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power-play. The All-Tournament Team consisted of Liam O'Hare (Tufts University – Tournament MVP), Payton Durand (Tufts University), Quinn McCarthy (Nichols), Jack Gray (SNHU), and Ian Worthley (Wentworth).

Nichols will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Friday evening when they face off against Wentworth at Allied Veterans Rink at 7:00 p.m.
