Burdier's Triple-Double Steers Women's Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over Fisher

BROOKLINE, Mass. (9/13/23) – The unbeaten streak continued for the Nichols College women's volleyball team, as the Bison earned a four-set victory over Fisher College (NAIA) by a score of 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-14) at Pappas Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

The Bison improved to 7-0 on the season, matching their program's all-time best start to a season (prev. 2022). The host Falcons fell to 2-5 on the season with the loss.

Sophomore setter Kya Burdier dominated for the Bison, hitting .444 while registering the team's first triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 13 digs, and 26 assists. Leading the team in kills yet again was senior outside hitter Haylee Granato with match-best 11, which also paired with 23 digs for her sixth double-double on the year.

In the opening set, Fisher raced out to an 8-3 lead forcing the visiting Bison to call an early timeout. From there, the Falcons would only make the workload heavier on Nichols, as they remained one step ahead up to a 18-12 lead. With the Bison unable to catch up, the first set would go to the host Falcons by a 25-18 score.

After playing from behind in the first set, the Bison created some separation in the second on a 5-0 run that saw kills from Granato and Burdier, along with three consecutive Falcon attack errors to make it 11-5. Despite a brief margin-narrowing effort by Fisher, the Bison did not turn back this time around, eventually tying the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 triumph.

Nichols would claim the win in the third set by the same score as the second, once again stoked by a 5-0 run at the midway point. With a 2-1 match lead now in hand, the Bison harnessed the momentum entering the fourth set and powered their way to a 10-5 lead early on. From there to the finish, it was all about matching the opponent every step of the way, until a 4-0 run with two kills by junior Ryley Plourde added the finishing touches to the Bison's 3-1 win.

Nichols women's volleyball will now head to Albany, New York for the first day of the Union College/Russel Sage Crosstown Challenge on Friday, September 15th. Two matchups are on the docket for the Bison, with their first against Russel Sage College scheduled for a 4:00 PM first serve at the Kahl Campus Center.
