Men's Soccer Scores Early and Often For 5-1 Triumph Over Mass. Maritime

DUDLEY, Mass. (9/12/23) – On Tuesday night, the Nichols College men's soccer team put on an offensive clinic and notched a 5-1 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MASCAC) in non-conference action at Vendetti Field.

With the win, Nichols improves to 3-3 overall, while Massachusetts Maritime drops to 1-2-1 with the loss.

It took all of 11-seconds for the Bison to pot the first goal of the night, which came off the foot of freshman Juanesteban Hincapie for his second strike of the season. The goal also made history for the team, as it was the fastest goal to open a game in program history. Along the way, the Bison also saw a multi-goal night from sophomore Tristan Phillips, and individual goals from junior William Pugliese-Savage and senior Miron Jusufi.

After the early first-half goal for the Bison, Nichols later staked a 2-0 lead in the first half as Pugliese-Savage scored at 27:08, assisted by sophomore back Cody Porter. That would be it for the first 45-minutes of action, with Nichols finishing out the frame with a 7-5 shots advantage over the Buccaneers.

The second half saw the Buccaneers cut the Nichols lead in half on a goal by PJ Callivan, which caromed into the net off a Bison player in the 66th minute. Shortly thereafter, the Bison climbed back ahead by a pair on Tristan Phillip's second goal of the season, which would be followed promptly by his third less than a minute later to make it 4-1 Bison. With time ticking down in the match, Miron Jusufi added the dagger goal off a penalty kick in the 85th minute, finalizing the 5-1 win for the hosts.

Men's soccer hosts their first Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent this coming Saturday, September 16th when Endicott College comes to Dudley for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
