BEVERLY, Mass. (9/11/23) – After setting a program record for margin of victory, two members so the Nichols College football team earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Sophomore
Colby Bernier earned Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman
Patrick Henry grabbed Defensive Rookie of the Week for the Bison.
Bernier helped lead the Bison to a victory over Dean on Saturday after going a perfect 7-7 on extra points, while also having one punt for 38 yards that landed inside the 20-yard line for the Bison. As the kicker he totaled 599 kickoff yards on 10 kickoffs.
Henry led the defensive line for the Bison on Saturday evening against Dean. The Freshman totaled two solo tackles and assisted with one as well for three total. He was also in the backfield a lot recording 2.5 tackles for a loss, totaling 9 yards, including two sacks for 8 yards in the second game of his young career. Henry also dropped in coverage and had a pass break up on the evening well as Nichols topped Dean 70-7.
Bernier is the first special teams' member of the team to win the award since Kyle Vannucci did back on September 26, 2022. Henry is the first rookie for Nichols to win a weekly award since
Shayne Sutton was named Offensive Rookie of the Week, back on September 12, 2022.
Nichols will look to carry their success into the weekend as they travel to Coast Guard for a noon time kick off on September 16.
