Gorham, ME. – The Nichols College Men's Soccer program opened the 2023 campaign on the road taking The University of Southern Maine at Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine on Friday afternoon. The Bison comeback fell short falling 3-2 to the Huskies.
Nichols was unable to convert on many chances early in the match. A take down by the Bison in their own box, resulted in an early penalty kick goal by the USM Huskies, leading them off to an early 1-0 lead. That lead would carry into the half.
In the 59
th minute, the Huskies doubled their lead to two, off a rapid-fire counterattack. Less than 10 minutes later, they extended their lead to 3.
The Bison would come stampeding back with a momentum shifting goal by freshman
Ethan Knowles, the first of his collegiate career. With less than 3 minutes to play, senior
Ethan Gosper added a goal of his own. Despite outshooting the Huskies in the match, the late push by the Bison wasn't enough to eat away at the Huskies lead. The Bison fell by a final score of 3-2.
The Bison open their home schedule tomorrow, September 2
nd as they take on UMaine Farmington on the Nichols College Soccer Field at 4pm.
