SALEM, Mass. – Sophomore
Hadley Houghton used an eight-goal output to reach and surpass the 100-goal milestone for her career in a 15-5 non-conference win for the Nichols women's lacrosse team over Salem State on Thursday night at Alumni Field. With her fifth goal of the game, Houghton became the fastest player in program history to reach 100 goals, as it took her just 25 games, and added three more to sit at 103. Nichols advanced to 8-2 (0-2 CCC), while the Vikings dropped to 15-5 (1-0 MASCAC).
After finding themselves down 1-0 after a Salem State goal at 11:44 of the first, Nichols would go on a 9-0 run, beginning with
Paige Alexander's strike at 9:20 of the first, which would span into the opening minutes of the second quarter. Houghton's nine first-half points (six goals, three assists) helped the Bison hold a 12-3 advantage. In the second half, Houghton with add a pair, while
Emma Patton completed her hat trick, as Nichols cruised to a 15-5 win.
Nichols held the edge in shots (29-24), saves (13-10), draw controls (14-10), and free-position shots (6-4), and was nearly perfect in its clearing efforts at 13-of-15.
The Bison hit the road to Biddeford, Maine on Saturday, April 1 with a 1:00 p.m. CCC matchup with UNE on tap at Blue Bolt Field.
