WENHAM, Mass. – The Nichols men's tennis team came out of a road Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at Gordon victorious by a score of 7-2 on Thursday afternoon. The Bison now hold a record of 7-8 (4-0 CCC), while the Fighting Scots are now 7-7 (2-2 CCC).
Nichols jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles with strong play coming across all three courts.
Ludwig Schlätzer and
Yannick De Vet downed their counterparts at No. 2, 8-0, while
Frederik Bertrams and
Leon Zeis overpowered their opponents at No. 1, 8-5, and
Caio Dieckmann and
Santiago Perez came out on top in an 8-6 decision at No. 3.
Gordon's only points of the match came at No. 1 and 2 singles, as the Bison powered past the Fighting Scots on courts three through six.
Enzo Matos Balleux started singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. De Vet earned a win at No. 5 by the scores of 6-4, 6-3, while Dieckmann dropped his opponent, 6-0, 6-4. Bertrams capped off the match with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 3.
Nichols will return home to gear up for a Saturday afternoon clash with Roger Williams, in a match with major postseason implications as both teams enter 4-0 in CCC play. Start time is set for noon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
