SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Nichols men's lacrosse team closed out their regular season with a 20-5 loss to Western New England on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Bison finish the season with a 10-7 (4-4 CCC) record, while WNE improves to 9-8 (7-1 CCC).
 
The Golden Bears came out firing, opening a 6-0 lead after the first quarter of play. The Bison got on the board in the second quarter, as graduate student Hunter Ferreira found the back of the net. Three unanswered goals by Western New England to close out the half gave them a 9-1 lead heading into the final 30 minutes of action.
 
Nichols scored the first two goals of the second half as Colby Gillis and Dylan DeRubeis each buried one, but the Golden Bears responded with eight of the next nine goals, with the lone Bison goal coming off the stick of Gillis, to take a 17-4 lead. Kyle Ettenhofer netted one last goal for the Bison, but WNE added three more to come away with the 20-goal win.
 
Up next for the Bison is the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals this Saturday, April 29 against Roger Williams. The time of the game is to be announced.
