DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols women's lacrosse team picked up its seventh win of the season with an 18-5 non-conference victory over Rhode Island College (RIC) on Thursday evening at Vendetti Field. With the win, the Bison improved their record to 7-1 (0-1 CCC), while the Anchorwomen fell to 1-7 (0-0 LEC).
Nichols got on the board first just over two minutes into the game thanks to
Hadley Houghton's 35th goal of the campaign. RIC answered back with a goal of their own to tie things up at one. Nichols would go on to score five straight goals, including two from freshman
Emma Patton to take a 6-1 lead. The Anchorwomen added a goal before the end of the quarter to cut the Bison lead to four heading into the second.
It was all bison in the second quarter, as they scored six unanswered goals, all off the stick of a different player, to take a 12-2 lead into the half. RIC found the back of the net first in the second half, but the Bison closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 16-3. Both teams added two goals in the fourth quarter to make it an 18-5 finish.
Patton and Houghton led the offensive attack with five and four goals, respectively.
Makayla Dube, Sam Ahaesy, and
Rebecca Taylor all found the back of the net twice on the night. Goaltenders
Keri Tremblay and
Jessica Volpi combined to make seven saves, with Tremblay earning her seventh win of the season.
