The Bison jumped on the Leopards early, plating three runs in the top of the first, with the big hit, a two-RBI double, coming off the bat of
Karl Miller. Junior
John Pollock got the start on the bump for the Bison, working around two walks to complete a scoreless first inning. Wentworth got on the board in the bottom of the third, getting the first two batters on via a walk and a hit, before another single knocked in their first run of the game. Pollock was able to escape further damage, getting the next batter to ground into a fielders choice, followed by a double play, to keep the score 3-1.
The Bison got the run back on a
Brad Ellis RBI single, scoring
Jim Marasco, in the top of the fourth inning. Pollock walked the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the fourth but got three straight groundouts to retire the side and wrap up his outing. The Bison added another run in the top of the fifth with the first three batters all reaching on a walk before a Marasco groundout scored
Johnny Knox to extend the lead to 5-1.
Nichols picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a squeeze bunt by Marasco, scoring
Stanley Cipkas who pinch-ran for
Luis Vargas. Wentworth scored one run in the bottom of the eight to cut the Bison lead to four, but
Nolan Sullivan slammed the door in the ninth to give the Bison the win.
Miller led the way for the Bison offense, collecting two hits, a walk, and two RBI. Pollock,
Sean Ryan, and Sullivan limited the Leopards to six hits and two earned runs, with Ryan earning his first win of the season. Nichols remained patient at the plate, walking a season-high 12 times.
The Bison look to carry the momentum into tomorrow when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson and Wales with the first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m
