WINCHESTER, Va. – The Nichols baseball team dropped a 17-5 decision to No. 6 Shenandoah on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Bison fall to 1-9 (0-0 CCC), while Shenandoah improves to 14-2 (1-1 ODAC).
Shenandoah came out of the gate hot, scoring three runs in the first and second innings. The Bison used four different pitchers in the first four innings to try and navigate through the tough Hornets lineup. Shenandoah kept their foot on the gas, plating 14 runs in the first five innings. Nichols finally got on the board in the sixth as
Kyle Birks scored on a wild pitch before
Ben Jerome picked up a two-RBI triple and scored on an error.
Sophomore
Karl Miller cranked his first career home run in the top of the seventh inning for the Bison to make the score 15-5. Shenandoah added two more runs before the end of the game.
Miller had two of the three hits for Nichols on the day, while Jerome picked up the other. The Bison used six different pitchers, with
Richard Pignone throwing a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning, striking out two.
Nichols heads back north to take on Babson on Wednesday, March 22 in Babson Park, Mass. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
