DUDLEY, MASS. – The Nichols men's basketball team was able to hold off a second-half comeback attempt by Wentworth for their 11
th consecutive win on Tuesday night. The Bison now sit at 17-5 on the season and 13-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). With the loss, Wentworth falls to 13-9 (8-7 CCC).
After the Leopards opened an 11-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game, Nichols turned it on offensively, going 15-25 from the floor the rest of the half to take a 51-37 halftime lead.
Jakigh Dottin led the way for the Bison with 13 points off the bench in the half, while also picking up two steals on the defensive end.
After Nichols extended their lead to 19 with 17:46 remaining, Wentworth began to slowly chip away. A 21-7 run by the Leopards capped off by a Sam Goy layup got the visiting team within five with five minutes to play. That is as close as they would get, however, as Dottin decided to take matters into his own hands, scoring the next 11 points for the Bison and extending the lead back to double digits. th CCC win.
Dottin was the leading scorer for Nichols with 26 points including going 12-14 from the foul line.
Ty Rucker shot 7-12 from the floor on the way to a 16-point night.
Tavon Jones recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Nichols takes the court next on Saturday, February 11 against the University of New England at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day from the Nichols Athletic Center.
