Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Suffolk, 97-90

DUDLEY, Mass – After an amazing fourth quarter comeback, the Nichols women's basketball team fell in overtime to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Suffolk on Saturday afternoon by the score of 97-90. With the loss, the Bison dropped to 6-15 (4-10 CCC), while the Rams improved to 11-10 (6-8 CCC).

Nichols led for the majority of the first quarter, but a layup from Suffolk's Madi Mahoney gave the Rams a two-point lead heading into the second quarter. The Bison used an 11-2 run to close out the second and head into the half with a 10-point lead. Nichols went 9-10 from the foul line in the second quarter to help extend their lead.

Suffolk would respond with a 31-point outburst in the third quarter to take a four-point lead heading into the fourth. A Suffolk free throw with 4:20 left to play extended their lead to 10, but the Bison would come roaring back, using eight straight points from junior guard Abrianna Vazquez to cut the lead to two. With 26 seconds remaining. Kya Burdier drove to the basket and got the layup to fall, knotting the game up at 83. A pair of missed free throws from the Rams with 6 seconds left would send the game into overtime.

In overtime, after two made free throws by Burdier, Suffolk went on 8-0 run to jump out to a 91-85 lead. The Rams would never look back, going 4-6 from the line in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Vazquez led the way for the Bison with 27 points. Kiera Fernandes secured a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. On the defensive end, Nichols forced 36 turnovers as a team.
