Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss of Season to UMass Boston

DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols men's lacrosse received its first defeat of the season to UMass Boston on Wednesday night by the score of 18-12. Nichols now sits at 1-1 on the season while the Beacons pick up their first win of the campaign to even their record at 1-1.

The Beacons got to business quickly, punching in four goals within the first 6:03 of the game. The Bison responded when senior midfielder Ryan Warner and sophomore attack CJ Cadigan each found the back of the net. UMass Boston would bury another one before the end of the quarter to make the score 5-2.

Nichols scored the next two goals in the second quarter, both coming from senior attack Blake Covell with a man up to pull within one. The Beacons pulled away after the second goal from Covell, outscoring the Bison 7-1 in the rest of the quarter to take a 12-5 halftime lead. The lone goal of the frame for Nichols came from junior attack Colby Gillis.

After another goal from Warner to start the second half for the Bison, UMass Boston scored the next five goals of the quarter to take a commanding 17-6 lead before the fourth. Nichols added goals from Warner, Hunter Ferreira, Cian Keohane, and two more from Covell in the fourth, but it proved to be too little too late for the Bison as they fell 18-12.

Covell led the way with four goals on eight shots for the Bison. Gillis added four assists to go along with the goal to tally five points on the night. Freshman goaltender Andrew Peppe made his collegiate debut in the second half and registered 10 saves.

Nichols is back in action on Saturday, February 25 when they head to Worcester to take on Clark, with the opening face-off set for 1:00 p.m.
