Women's Hockey Falls in Season Finale to Salve Regina, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Nichols women's ice hockey team dropped a hard-fought Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup to Salve Regina on Saturday night by the score of 3-1. Nichols finishes the season with a 5-19-1 (3-15-0 CCC) record, while the Seahawks improved to 11-14-0 (6-12-0 CCC).

Salve quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 3:27 of the game thanks to goals from Emma Gotthelf and Jennifer Rickard. The Bison would respond as senior Sarah Zeidan found the back of the net off assists by Isabella Portt and Grace Melanson to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.

The Bison held strong in the second as they were able to kill off three penalties to keep the score at 2-1 with 20 minutes left to play.

In the third, Salve's Maddie Cox was able light the lamp on the power play to extend their lead to two. The Bison were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way and went home with the 3-1 defeat.

Nichols senior goaltender Julia Carroll stopped 23 throughout the game, including 13 in the second period. Shots were fairly even as Salve finished with 26 and the Bison registering 24.
