Bristol, R.I. (10/28/23) – The Nichols College Men's Soccer Team finished their 2023 season on the road against the Roger Williams University Hawks at Bayside Field. The Bison fell 2-0 to the Hawks in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarter finals. The Hawks now advance to the semi-finals this week as they take on the Suffolk University Rams.
The Bison will finish the season with a 7-8-3 (2-3-3 CCC) record.
The Bison and Hawks exchanged chances early in the match, but neither side could capitalize on their opportunities.
The Hawks would strike in the 32
nd minute, as Dylan Thomas took a shot off a miss cue in the box and was able to put home his fourth goal of the season to put the home side ahead 1-0.
Less than one minute later, Bison goalkeeper
Franco Barreto Santana came out high in the box to challenge a Hawks shooter, and lost his footing making the stop, which led to Ewen Noble being able to tap the ball in on the back post, doubling the lead to 2-0.
The 2-0 score would result as the final. The Bison were unable to shift momentum and capitalize. In the 78
th minute, the Bison were forced to play man-down due to a red card assessed the
Nicholas De Paula.
Franco Barreto Santana made 9 saves for the Bison; Jack Avellar made 2 for the Hawks. The final shots on goal were 24-6 in favor of the Hawks.
Nichols has now wrapped up their 2023 season, they will return to action next fall.
