No. 2 Roger Williams Tops Nichols 2-0 in CCC Playoffs

Bristol, R.I. (10/28/23) – The Nichols College Men's Soccer Team finished their 2023 season on the road against the Roger Williams University Hawks at Bayside Field. The Bison fell 2-0 to the Hawks in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarter finals. The Hawks now advance to the semi-finals this week as they take on the Suffolk University Rams.

The Bison will finish the season with a 7-8-3 (2-3-3 CCC) record.

The Bison and Hawks exchanged chances early in the match, but neither side could capitalize on their opportunities.

The Hawks would strike in the 32nd minute, as Dylan Thomas took a shot off a miss cue in the box and was able to put home his fourth goal of the season to put the home side ahead 1-0.

Less than one minute later, Bison goalkeeper Franco Barreto Santana came out high in the box to challenge a Hawks shooter, and lost his footing making the stop, which led to Ewen Noble being able to tap the ball in on the back post, doubling the lead to 2-0.

The 2-0 score would result as the final. The Bison were unable to shift momentum and capitalize. In the 78th minute, the Bison were forced to play man-down due to a red card assessed the Nicholas De Paula.

Franco Barreto Santana made 9 saves for the Bison; Jack Avellar made 2 for the Hawks. The final shots on goal were 24-6 in favor of the Hawks.

Nichols has now wrapped up their 2023 season, they will return to action next fall.
