Beverly, Mass. (10/24/23). – The Nichols College Women's Tennis Team pushed Endicott College to the brink in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship match, but just fell short by a 5-4 final score.
In doubles action, the Bison got a point thanks to the efforts of
Sophia Leonardi / Johanna Schroeder, the pair picked up the 8-4 win at the number three position. Team captains and seniors
Kelley Carlin / Jordan Knowles kept their match in the number two position close, ultimately falling 8-7 after a tiebreak set. The Bison trailed the Gulls 2-1 after doubles.
In singles action, the Bison came stampeding back, with
Camila Magrin leading the way by way of a 6-1, 6-0 win at number six singles. Teammate
Antonia Carrero soon followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one position. The Bison and Gulls sat at 3-3 after three quick matchup finishes.
Johanna Schroeder was the first win on the second wave for the Bison, securing a 7-5, 6-3 win at number two. The day was set to be decided on the side by side three and four courts, as they both required third sets to be decided.
Charis Vogler faced a difficult challenge at number three, and fell 6-3, 4-6, 3-6. Freshman
Cora Brosch was the last match on the day to be decided, as she came up short 6-3, 0-6, 4-6. The match decided the fifth point, securing the win for the Gulls.
The win marked Endicott's fourth consecutive CCC women's tennis title.
The Bison have now wrapped up their fall 2023 season with a record of 9-3. They will return to action in non-traditional matchups in the spring.
