West Hartford, Conn. (10/21/23) – The Nichols Women's Soccer Team fell in their first ever matchup with the University of Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Al Marzook Field. The Bison dropped the contest by an 8-0 margin.
Nichols now sits at 3-12-2 (0-6-1 CCC) on the year. Hartford has seen a lot of success at their first year of division III, sitting at 11-2 (8-0 CCC). (As a reclassifying institution to Division III, Hartford contests in 2023 will not be recognized by the Conference as intra-conference contests. The record reflected above accounts for results earned by Hartford vs. CCC opponents only).
Hartford opened the scoring in the 11
th minute, as Elise Engquist shot the ball to the low left side of the net, to take the Hawks to a 1-0 lead, the goal would go on to serve as the days game-winner. The Hawks would go onto score three unanswered goals before the close of the half and had a 4-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Bison would hold off the Hawks pressure for the first fifteen minutes, before the Hawks would score 2 goals in 3 minutes to extend their lead to six. They would then settle the scoring in the 82
nd minute, as Mayson Massaro would score to secure the 8-0 victory for the home side.

Caroline Shields and
Grace Killman led the way for the Bison recording one shot on goal each.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Saige Frazier was the star of the game for the Bison, as she faced 53 shots in the outing. She recorded a career high 20 saves in the match.
The Women's Soccer team is back in action as they round out the 2023 season this Tuesday. They will face off against CCC opponent Gordon on the road Tuesday October 24
th at the Brigham Complex. Kickoff is set for 4pm.
