Mitchell Ties for Runner-Up, Men's Golf Takes 10th at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. (10/15/23) – The Nichols College men's golf team stayed the course and finished in 10th place out of 19 teams in the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Golfers Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday afternoon. Graduate Colby Mitchell highlighted the event for the Bison, as he finished tied for runner-up individually with a two-round card of 147 (+3).

Husson University claimed the overall victory in the tournament with 27-over 603 score, while Endicott College claimed second as a team with a 608 (+32). The Bison finished the event with a 629 (+53) card, improving their score by 17 strokes in round two.

Mitchell, after shooting a 74 on day one, improved by one stroke to card a 73 in the second round. He drew even for second individually with Roger Williams' Sammy Johnson, and Husson's Cade Charron.

Senior Jacob Cashin dropped one position in the overall rankings, finishing tied for 35th with a six-over 78 in the second round. Individual entry Colby Allen finished close behind in a four-way tie for 38th, additionally carding a 78 in the second round to go 14-over through the two rounds.

Senior Luke Sargent jumped ahead in the individual leaderboards to join freshman Tyler Pearson in a three-way tie for 57th, improving his score by 12 strokes with a pair of birdies after shooting an 88 in round one. Pearson also saw a better outcome in the second round, carding 80 (+8) to improve by four strokes. Freshman Cameron Desante tied for 60th place with a seven-over 79, which also included a birdie on the front nine.

As the regular season reaches its end for men's golf, they will now turn their attention to the upcoming CCC Championship this coming Thursday, October 9th and Friday, October 20th. The two-round tournament will be played at Highfields Golf and Country Club in Grafton, Massachusetts and will be hosted by Wentworth Institute of Technology.
