Women's Golf Holds 7th Place On Day One of NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. (10/24/23) – In just their second time on the course this fall, the Nichols College women's golf team occupy 7th place following the opening round of the New England Intercollegiate Golfers Association (NEIGA) Championship, which is being held at the par-72 Captains Golf Course.

Wellesley holds the top position in the team leader boards after Saturday with a team card of 302 (+14), which is nine strokes better than current runner-up Hartford University at 311 (+23).

Sophomore Kaitlin Baca was the top finisher for the Bison, finishing the round 30th individually with a 98 (+26) card. 

To round-out the scorers for Nichols, senior Taylor Cornell tied for 36th with a round score of 115 (+43). Freshman Maya Orbegozo totaled one stroke more than her teammate, finishing just behind Cornell in 37th with a 116 (+44). Finally, fellow freshman Gabrielle Maranchie carded a 45-over 117 to place 39th, while senior Claire Curry scored a 124 (+52) for 42nd overall.

As an individual competitor,  graduate Alaina Plourde finished 35th with a 111 (+39).

The action continues with round two of the NEIGA Championship on Sunday, October 15th.
