BREWSTER, Mass. (10/24/23) – In just their second time on the course this fall, the Nichols College women's golf team occupy 7
th place following the opening round of the New England Intercollegiate Golfers Association (NEIGA) Championship, which is being held at the par-72 Captains Golf Course.
Wellesley holds the top position in the team leader boards after Saturday with a team card of 302 (+14), which is nine strokes better than current runner-up Hartford University at 311 (+23).
Sophomore
Kaitlin Baca was the top finisher for the Bison, finishing the round 30
th individually with a 98 (+26) card.
To round-out the scorers for Nichols, senior
Taylor Cornell tied for 36
th with a round score of 115 (+43). Freshman
Maya Orbegozo totaled one stroke more than her teammate, finishing just behind Cornell in 37
th with a 116 (+44). Finally, fellow freshman
Gabrielle Maranchie carded a 45-over 117 to place 39
th, while senior
Claire Curry scored a 124 (+52) for 42
nd overall.
As an individual competitor, graduate
Alaina Plourde finished 35
th with a 111 (+39).
The action continues with round two of the NEIGA Championship on Sunday, October 15
th.
