Men's Soccer Scores Early in 3-2 Win Over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. (10/14/23) – The Nichols Men's Soccer Team picked up a Commonwealth Coast Conference win on the road Saturday, in a matchup against the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards. The Bison came away with the win after a closely contested 3-2 match.

The win pushes Nichols to 7-5-2 (2-2-2 CCC) on the year and the Leopards drop to 3-10-2 (1-5-0 CCC) this season. The win marks the first win for Nichols over Wentworth since the 2019 season.

The Bison scoring came early, as they netted three goals in the first 16 minutes of the match. Carl Headges-Small scored his first of the year and opened the scoring for Nichols as he converted off a free kick pass from Nikolas Padilla in only the 2nd minute of the match. Six minutes later it was Padilla with an assist again, as he fed freshman Noah Johnson, who netted his first career goal on the play. In the 15th minute, it was Brady Stevenson's turn to score as he tapped the ball in from an across the box pass from teammate Tristan Phillips.

In the second half, the Leopards would try and push at the Bison lead, which led to two goals for the home squad in the 62nd and 89th minutes of the match. The Bison however would weather the storm, and hold on en route to a 3-2 victory, despite being outshot by the Lions 16-19.

In net for the Bison, regining CCC defensive player of the week Franco Barreto Santana was up to the task recording 8 saves for Nichols.

The Men's Soccer Team returns home to Dudley and is set to face Commonwealth Coast Conference Rival Western New England University this Wednesday October 18th, kickoff is set for 3:00pm on the Nichols Soccer Field.
